Eola Hotel Apparition Photo (FLIR i7 Image)

The following photos were taken during a joint NAPS investigation with MPS out of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Photo at Left:
FLIR i7 image taken by NAPS investigator Adam Chapman in Room 410. You can see the female's shoulders, and the right side of her face, which is turned slightly away at a angle, as if she is looking to our right. The apparition is of her head and upper torso. Her nose is clearly visible, as is her chin. Her hair, which is long, is wrapped around her right ear and down her back, but her hair on her left side is flowing down in front. Her body is at a tilt to the right.

Photo Enhancement at Left:
This is the same photo, which has been cropped to the area of the apparition, gray-scaled and contrasted so the apparition will be clearer. This enhancement clearly shows her head, neck, and right shoulder. You can even see the neckline of her clothing at the bottom of her neck. Her right shoulder, at the corner, seems to curve up, as in revealing the way old-time dresses had trim, or puffed up, right at point of the shoulder ending and the sleeve beginning. If you click on the photo it should enlarge...and then you can then even make out her eyes, nose and lips.

What is interesting about this image is that history reports a long line of paranormal experiences by many people with the ghost of the daughter of the hotel builder. She died when she was only sixteen, and her name was Eola. Yes, the hotel was named after her.

Could this be the image of Eola?

  1. i had no idea a FLIR i7 or indeed any thermal imaging camera could be used to detect paranormal activity? I know thermal imaging displays objects according to how much energy (heat) something emits, but exactly what kind of energy does a ghost have?

  2. That's a great question, and tro answer it would take a book! There are many different theories, from radiation theory, emf theory, static theory, air ion, etc and so forth. The most common is that spirits use electro-magnetic theory in order to manifest in some way, whether it be a sound (auditory) or an apparition (visual), a smell (olfactory), etc. My personal belief is that all of them are used in some way, and that it is difficult for them (the ones that even want to) to "cross-over" unless God is behind it, such as in an angelic apparition - such as Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary. All the Flir does is detect temperature differences, and what it "detects" should be "weighed" or evaluated in conjunction with and in light of other "paranormal" things happening at the same time. We call that "cross-substantiated evidence." Hope that helps.

  3. Mike,
I googled, ghost at Eola Hotel in Natchez and came upon this site. Just wanted to share with you. We stayed in this hotel Wednesday, February 29, 2012. I placed my eye glasses beside me on the bed stand that night. When I arose the next morning and put my glasses on, I thought, man these are filthy. So I took them in to the bathroom and washed them and put them back on. Funny, but they still looked dirty, so I put them up to the light to see where my smear was and it wasn't a smear at all, my lens had a cobweb looking shatter to them!!! Now the strange thing is there was nothing at all near my glasses and this was not on my lens prior to going to bed. Just wanted to share this with you. We were with a tour group and the manager of Eola Hotel came on our bus and shared with us about the girl ghost. Not sure if she visited our room or not, but I can tell you I slept fitfully that night. Not because I was scared because I never thought another thing about the ghost until I was sitting at breakfast and I was trying to figure out how in the world my glasses at this marking on them. Quite funny.

  4. That's very interesting...do you recall the number of the room you stayed in? It would be nice to add your experience to the case report. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Mike,

I believe it was 307, the last room at the end of the hall. took a right off elevator, jog left then down hall and jog left again and there was our room.

  6. We just came back from Mississippi where we stayed at the Eola. My dad was in room 205 and claims to have been pushed off the bed. I can't emphasize enough how much of a skeptic he is.

  7. We stayed at the Eola in 2012 for the American legion Auxiliary for my daughter to be crowned for Miss Poppy. It was an experience that I my daughter and nieces will never forget!! We stated out on the 3rd floor and felt uneasy so we changed rooms the the 4th floor. We had no idea of the "talk" of the Eola.. the nx morning I woke up to my niece asking me why I was playing with her feet only did she know I was about to ask her the same question! We also heard a piano playing that night in the distance! We will never forget our night that we stayed at The Eola! We talk about it all the time! My oldest niece says that she saw a man in the mirror!

    1. To funny! I was suppose to go on this trip to Natchez and stay at the Eola in 2012, but had family come in from out of state. I actually booked the room and the anonymous person above stayed in it. She called me the next morning, and said did you know you booked us in a haunted hotel. NO! Then she began to tell me the things that took place. It was too funny! I have to go stay in this hotel!

I work at the hotel and, let me tell you. You could not have picked an odder floor. The 7th and 4th floors are Eola's fav. Don't know why. Also their is a Doctor on the 7th floor who likes to give the elderly free check ups. Guests will come in with aches and pains, be visited in the night, and be spry as a spring chicken in the am with a story of a man in a lab coat, a crooked nose and odd glasses.

  9. We also stayed in this hotel in the summer of 2011, I'm writing a ghost series and thought I would google the Eola to read about it and decided to write my experience, as the place scared me. It was a Sunday night and the town was completely empty. For some reason, I got an extremely uneasy feeling in Natchez, which happened to me in 2005 when we were passing through and stayed at the Eola. We didn't have anything happen that first trip out of the ordinary except I remember a man walking across the street toward me and my daughter and niece who were 5 and I felt suddenly like "I have to get inside here.. quick". which I mentioned to my family and they thought I was nuts..LOL our second trip we were put on the 7th floor and it was literally completely empty. We stayed in the first room in the corner after you make a right out of the elevator. My daughter is notorious for lagging behind so we decided to get in an elevator and head up, and she laughed and started running and hopped into the adjacent elevator and rode up by herself. When she got off the thing and started running down the hall toward the room, the air was so thick it was palpable. The energy was very heavy. our three girls loved the room, but I thought it was very scooby doo, very creepy. I sent my husband to get ice and he went down to the 6th floor and it was super hot as they had the air off down there. He said, and he's no wimp, that he hauled butt out of there, because it felt like he was being watched and he saw a shadow go up the wall, when there was nothing around him to cause it. I felt the whole time that I was going to turn around and find a man standing there, I actually looked out the peep hole a few times when he was downstairs and had no idea what he was experiencing on the 6th floor at the same time.

I didn't sleep too well, the air conditioner was extremely loud and at breakfast the next morning I decided to google the place and saw all the activity on the 7th floor and the girl, which made sense why the girls felt so happy to be there. The feeling was such an intense feeling of heaviness I'm not sure it would have mattered if the hotel was full... So interesting. I felt after this trip that it would be hard to live in Natchez because my stomach seems to immediately start hurting the second I cross the river. My husband too, said it would be an adjustment. I'm no Long Island Medium but I must be sensitive to these things.

  10. I stayed at Ella on 7/4/2013 . When I went to bed for that night while sleeping I heard a humming sound , but was to afraid to look up . The next morning when I got up my door looked as someone was trying to come in but the secrecy lock stopped them , but I heard no notice like anyone messing with the door. Also, while in the shower my bottle of liquid soup was knock to the floor with a slam .

  11. Stayed at the Eola 4/5/2014 with my wife and 2 dogs. In room 502. Woke up several times in the middle of the night to find my dogs sitting in the middle of the room staring at the door the whole night. My other dog also got up in the middle of the night running around as if he was playing. This was very unusual for them. The next day as I mentioned to a relative of the hotel we checked in they informed me that it was haunted and that dogs are more sensitive to things like this. Not sure if it's true or not but I doubt I stay there again.

  12. I stayed at this hotel on Oct 5 & 6 2014 in room 517.I left the room to walk about Natchez and have some dinner. when coming back into the room my travel slippers had moved from a folded into each other (like socks) and lying on top of my luggage. I found them now lying toe to toe on the floor in front of the balcony doors! I found this to be very strange as the housekeeper would not have moved them into such a position. It was the next morning our travel director mentioned if anyone had seen the ghost of the original owner's daughter? and commented that she apparently loved shoes of all kinds and has been known to move guest's shoes. This was my experience at the Eola hotel in Nachez Mississippi.

  13. I was in Natchez this weekend and spending time with mom. We went into the Eola hotel and took pictures in the courtyard and lobby. It was my first time of hearing of the Eola and had no idea of the history or of the allegations of it being haunted. I had an uneasy feeling about the room with the black stairs leading to the piano room and did not go in there. We took pictures from the balcony and it was interesting what showed up in the photo. I will upload if I can and let y'all decide.
